Derek was born and raised in Malibu on the La Costa hillside and fell in love with the beach lifestyle at a young age.  His father was raised in the Malibu Colony, so his family’s Malibu roots go back to the 1950’s.  Derek currently lives at the beach in Venice, where he’s been since 2010, while his parents still reside in Malibu.  Calling both Malibu and Venice home today, Derek is deeply immersed in both communities and also intimately familiar with the cities of Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades.

Prior to working in real estate, Derek received his bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of California at Santa Barbara and went on to obtain an MFA in Film Production from the University of Southern California.  After completing his education, he worked in the entertainment industry for five years, specializing in visual effects.  Having experienced life in the film industry, Derek decided he wanted to get back to his roots and serve the town where he grew up.  Whether you’re looking for your dream home, a summer lease, or a sound investment, Derek has the patience, local knowledge, and passion to help accomplish your real estate goals.
